Museletter: Capricorn New Moon

Capricorn Goddess. Mixed media on board, 8 x 10 inches. © 2010 by Kathy Crabbe New Moon In Capricorn – January 4, 2011 I have been working with the New Moon for many years and have been setting intentions along the way. The New Moon is the best time to plant our seeds of intention for the month ahead and then watch them grown and bloom as Mama Moon waxes to Full.

This month’s New Moon is in the sign of Capricorn, a cardinal earth sign. Capricornian types are cardinal-oriented or leadership-oriented, and they really do like being the boss, often in practical, earthy ways that help build foundations or structures that add meaning and value to our lives, often monetarily. Capricorn also relates to our bones and especially our knees that may give out when we work too hard, have you noticed?

Capricorn Keywords Ambitious, status quo, self-discipline, common sense, logic, patience and self-sufficiency. Capricorn is often associated with paternal figures: landlords, bosses and rules.

The Shadow Side of Capricorn The shadow side of Capricorn relates to workaholism, emotional constriction, sorrow, loneliness, and time-serving.

So, on January 4th when the New Moon enters Capricorn get ready to:

  • Ground your intentions in right action in the material world.
  • Strengthen your willpower and commitment to purpose.
  • Channel your ambitions in accord with your duties.
  • Get serious.

More About The Moon Phases The Moon changes signs approximately every 2 ½ days, going through all twelve signs of the Zodiac every 29 ½ days. The sign that the Moon is in reflects qualities of your inner self and being-ness. Each month there is at least one New Moon that will rise at sunrise and set at sunset. Astrologically speaking this means that the Sun and the Moon are in conjunction.

Learning to work in concert with the phases of the Moon is an excellent way to add structure to your life. You are not only connecting with Mother Nature through the Moon’s reflection of the Sun and the Earth, but with human nature and especially with feminine nature who’s natural cycles resemble the Moon’s own.

New Moon in Capricorn With A Twist! To add another level of importance (ahem, we are talking about Capricorns here!) to this New Moon I’m going to share my own tarot related version of The Devil Card (but from my hand painted Creative Soul Guide deck) into the mix.

Demon. Watercolor on paper, 8 x 10 inches © 2010 by Kathy Crabbe

One way of working with The Devil card is to close your eyes and visualize your own personal Demon or Gremlin standing in front of you and then pretend that you are being grilled by this so-called Being. Start off by asking this Demon what you are meant to learn by facing your shadow-side. Take note of how that question makes you feel and then start taking notes and asking more questions; be as specific as you like.

So here is what The Devil might sound like and keep in mind that this exercise is good practice for getting tuned up for the actual New Moon especially since these questions are going to help you kick start an entire year of intention work!

The Devil’s Questions: It is time now to acknowledge the Capricorn side of your nature and yes, every one of you has Capricorn somewhere in your birth chart.

By resisting me you only make me stronger (and yes, you too, in the process). What things in your life are you resisting right now?

Why are you being so hard on yourself?

Can you accept yourself with all your faults and limitations?

Tell me about your purpose, your foundation, your favorite modes of being creative and what you’re working on right now.

What have you come here to accomplish?

What do you need help with?

Who can help you with these things?

Who is preventing you from accomplishing what you need to?

Who is keeping you on track? Take a moment or two to acknowledge who these helpers are right now and then send them your gratitude from the heart...

In closing: Okay, enough with The Devil, I think you get the picture! Now, when you’re ready to write out your New Moon Intentions you’ll have some good, juicy material to work with. And remember, at the Full Moon you’ll be tracking how these intentions have come to fruition and at the Dark Moon (just before the New Moon) you can release all that is keeping you back from reaching your true potential. It’s time to acknowledge yourself as the unique, creative and special person that you are.

Mercury Retrograde In Capricorn/Sagittarius

Mercury Retrograde In Capricorn/Sagittarius

by Chad Woodward Chad's Blog: kosmicmind.blogspot.com Chad's Facebook Page

Dec 10 through Dec 29, 2010 Enters Shadow: Nov 22, 2010 @ 20 degrees Sagittarius Stationary Retrograde: Dec 10, 2010 @ 06 degrees Capricorn Stationary Direct: Dec 29, 2010 @ 20 degrees Sagittarius Leaves Shadow: Jan 17, 2011 @ 06 degrees Capricorn

Mercury retrograde occurs, roughly, every three months, and designates a three week time band in which the “normal” flow of daily activities are interrupted and or rerouted in directions diametrically opposed to a linear perception of time. In other words, it is often a time of frustration for most people because many of us are in a state of future orientation, that is, not in the present moment, but rather living out or projecting other moments that have yet to come into existence. Mercury retrograde is a natural archetypal process whose function serves to reroute the collective mental consciousness into a state of introspection and revision. This has the effect of “looking back” as opposed to forward. All mental processes that have been formulating for the past three months, have now reached a point, in which their basic mechanics must be re-evaluated to ensure their success. This manifests within a multitude of formations such as the mechanical failure or interruption of various machinery, to the setback or delay in plans that have been formulating for several weeks. Again, the function serves to correct any imbalance or potential malfunction that could interrupt the successful execution in the future, and so this is a natural time in which to take a “second look” and to make sure everything is in its proper place.

It’s quite common for something to come to a head around this time, and the ego is very tempted to push us forward, however, nature intends otherwise. It would be very wise to take a few steps back and rework your plan or direction, because the universe fully supports it! If you learn to work with the Mercury retrograde cycle as opposed or against it, you’ll find that these times will be much less stressful than is often the case. Mercury retrograde is often touted as a time of mishaps and “misfortunes”, causing many to look at it with apprehension and dread. The truth of the matter is that, astrological events don’t cause things to happen, but rather correlate with the unfolding of circumstances directly linked to our own unconscious. Whatever misfortunes we experience at this time are signs from the unconscious heeding us to pay closer attention to something. The function for such mishaps are to reroute us into another direction so that we are further aligned with our evolutionary path. The more we fight this process, the more difficult the cycle will be perceived. Another function of Mercury retrograde is to make adjustments to our basic ideologies or to simply change our perspective on something. As a result, it is best to keep an open mind and to be as receptive as possible to incoming feedback or information, as it is likely to have a powerful impact on our consciousness. Follow any intuition that urges you to go BACK to something that you may have overlooked, you’ll now find it perfectly useful within your present circumstances.

Mercury retrograde seems to take effect through a gradient shift, known as the shadow period. A shadow period is simply when Mercury moves through the area of the zodiac that it will retrograde back through. Mercury first entered the shadow on November 22nd and then goes retrograde on Dec 10th. Pay close attention to events that have transpired between this band of time, as they will play a crucial role in what will be adjusted or worked on over the next three weeks. The second shadow period, Dec 29th through Jan 17, 2011 designates a period in which the process “wraps up” and comes to a close, which will follow a gradual receding of the effects. Keep an open mind, and a flexible schedule, and most of all expect the unexpected!

To further understand this retrograde cycle I like to look towards the degree in which Mercury goes stationary retrograde, and study the Sabian symbol for that specific degree (click here to learn more about Sabian symbols). The symbol for 6 degrees of Capricorn reads:

“Ten logs lie under an archway leading to darker woods”

Dane Rudhyar, in his infamous book, “An Astrological Mandala: The Cycle of Transformations and It’s 360 Symbolic Phases”, has this to say about the symbol:

“The need to complete any undertaking before seeking entrance to whatever is to be found beyond. Number 10 is a symbol of completion; it symbolizes even more the revelation of a new series of activities just ahead. Yet unless the concluded series is brought to some degree of fulfillment, nothing truly significant is likely to be accomplished by a restless reaching out toward the as-yet-unknown. Number 10 is a symbol of germination, but the seed (Number 9) must have matured well. No natural process can be accelerated safely beyond certain limits. Here man reaches a THRESHOLD in which he may have to pause in order to safeguard his further advance”

This is an intriguing symbol indeed, further exemplifying the need to pause and complete something before pushing forward, and to not push something beyond its own natural limitations. I find the notion of a threshold equally fascinating, given the energy that surrounds us at this present moment in time. Keep an eye out for my next blog post shortly, as I’ll cover current events and their correlation to this point. The basic premise is that at this juncture, the collective consciousness is experiencing a threshold, a barrier or gateway, to another perception of reality. However you want to label this threshold does not matter, but looking into your own lives you will likely find this symbolism to be very prominent. Further empowering this retrograde cycle is Mercury’s position in conjunction to the stellium between the North Node, Pluto, and Mars in Capricorn. Mercury will retrograde (move backwards) through this energy, and then will direct and pass through it once more. I believe this retrograde is in complete synchronicity with the culmination of a very powerful evolutionary process that is unfolding before us, which I will further delineate in my next post. This evolutionary process is being activated directly into our own mental consciousness via Mercury’s passage, creating a bridge between powerful, yet subtle, cosmic forces and our own personal and mundane realities.

mercury retrograde

With that aside for now, this powerful conjunction in Capricorn is urging all of us to take responsibility for our own lives, to leave the past behind, and to bravely step into the unknown as powerful warriors of planet earth. This is a time in which many structures are failing, many systems are collapsing, and the future may seem bleak and uncertain. The beauty of it all, if you can see it, is that it’s all apart of the unfolding, an unfolding that the cosmos so eloquently describes through vivid symbolism. Pluto’s transit through Capricorn is working to tear down what no longer supports the structure, and to replace it with more sustainable forms, a process that will continue on into 2024 (Pluto entered Capricorn in 2008). The conjunction with the North Node is further enhancing this energy, along with the activation of two Eclipses that have, and will, occur within this axis. What falls away at this time has outlived its usefulness and is at this point, stagnating further growth and evolution. Let what needs to die go at this time, let it pass through this threshold, and a powerful rebirth and transmutation will be waiting at the end. Pluto’s transit through Capricorn is uncovering the dark and hidden side of the world’s structures, which includes governmental institutions and big business corporations. This has the effect of popularizing various conspiracies, revealing the truth about “what’s really going on”, which likely has much validity as long as it isn’t taken too far. Pluto likes to take things to the extreme, so it is highly important to keep oneself in check from getting too obsessed or involved in uncovering “the truth”. This energy also has the potential to push those with power to the edge, creating the delusion that they can overpower and manipulate nature for their own means. On the light side, this energy is urging us to step into our power and full potential as human beings, to take responsibility for the collective destiny, to build a greater awareness of our effect on the environment, and to build more sustainable structures for the future of humanity.

This retrograde Mercury passes through both Capricorn and Sagittarius, crossing the powerful cardinal point (or Aries Point) at zero degrees of Capricorn. This retrograde is all about restructuring our lives, receiving a larger and more broad perspective, and really taking a good hard look at what is or isn’t working. Mercury’s retreat into Sagittarius on Dec 18 will shift this focus from the structural details themselves, into a desire to gain deeper clarity and understanding of the situation as a whole. Mercury retrograde in Sagittarius will allow us to really connect to the truth of a situation, so that we can see more clearly where we are headed. This is also potentially a very spiritually influential retrograde, in which we will have a greater opportunity to connect to our higher selves and our innate intuition. As with all Mercury retrograde cycles, stay flexible and be open to revision of all kinds. If you can go with the flow of this powerful energy, you will likely find it less stressful than need be.

Guest Astrologer, Chad WoodwardChad's Bio

Ever since I was young I found myself fascinated and mesmerized by the night sky, gazing up at its brilliance and immensity in awe. Somehow, this innate part of myself was looking for omens in that very sky, completely unaware of the vivid and profound art known as astrology, which has graced this planet for thousands of years. It wasn’t until I was 19 that I discovered the real horoscopic astrology that, from that point forward, would change and shape my life in ways I would have never imagined. It was truly love at first sight, a love that has only increased in its intensity ever since. Life with astrology is truly an adventure, as it unveils the magic of destiny, which has been sadly lost to our world for far too long.

My goal, as the late Joseph Campbell so eloquently stated, is to simply follow my bliss. Astrology is a guide to the unfolding of self and of the cosmos itself. It is in the proper application of this guide, that we as humans, can learn to no longer be an obstacle to the brilliance and intelligence of this cosmic unfolding. Currently, I am simply a researcher, massage therapist, healer, and artist doing my part in the ascension of the planet. I hope to share the joy and bliss that astrology can provide, as we learn to dance and flow in synchronicity with this great and mysterious divine plan.

New Moon Manifestation Exercise

Within the book Alchemy of Nine Dimensions by astrologer Barbara Hand Clow you will find an amazing New Moon Manifestation Technique that includes how to set your intentions in tune with the New Moon. It involves making a list of things you would like to have or create in your life and placing that list in your third eye and then in your medulla oblongata. This technique teaches you about the power of your mind and the magic of the Divine. You literally can create almost anything. "The Divine Mind does not assist you unless you ask."

According to The Pleiadian Agenda (another book by Hand Clow), the Moon has a huge influence on what you want because the Moon reflects our desires to the Sun, where our access to the 8D library is located.

The first time I used this technique, I was blown away and I wrote about it here: Meeting Ian.

I highly recommend all of Barbara's books, but my favorite is Liquid Light of Sex: Understanding Your Key Life Passages which talks about the major astrological transitions we all go through at age 30, 40, 50 and 60.

Get ready to release and let go of unnecessary baggage as we enter the dark time of the year, shedding all that is no longer necessary so that we can enter into the New Year like a baby, ready for a fresh start.

This month the New Moon enters the fiery, mutable sign of Sagittarius, symbolized by the Archer. During your New Moon Meditation allow yourself to sense the wild beating heart of the she-stallion riding through a moonlit night. You are Artemis, goddess of the hunt and your untamed beauty shares the saddle with no man. You are the protector of many, both Amazon, and virgin moon-goddess. Elder twin of the Sun, beloved by many, take time to cherish the Sagittarius within, for she is your sister, your fierce beating heart, and a salute to your unquenchable thirst for adventure.

When the Moon enters Sagittarius on December 5th get ready to:

  • Seek new horizons - let the quest begin
  • Explore worlds without maps
  • Be outrageous

More About The Lunar Cycles

“Female nature is profoundly lunar at its biological base” ~ Vicki Noble.

The new moon is the perfect time of the month to plant seeds of intention for the month ahead. It is a time of trust, of beginnings and of letting go into intuition. The sign that the moon is in reflects qualities of your inner self and being-ness. Each month there is at least one new moon that will rise at sunrise and set at sunset. Astrologically speaking this means that the sun and the moon are in conjunction. Take time to realign with the moon each month because with practice you’ll discover that you can create all you desire and so much more.

Introducing The Moon Muses

The Moon Muses are intuitive guides and question askers that offer insight and wisdom along with exercises to heal and inspire you. They are creative leap takers forming a glowing moonlit bridge between your rational self and your higher self, a self that dwells in pure intuition, clairvoyance (clear seeing), meditative reflection and dreaming. This month you will meet Gemstone Muse, Obsidian and a Creative Soul Guide® by the name Enough. I encourage all of you to create a Moon Musing Journal to record your monthly moon explorations (more about this in my eClass, Awaken the Divine Feminine).

My Version of Sagittarius: Enough “Enough” is part of a series of 500 or so left-handed (my non-dominant hand!) drawings I created over a period of five years. These drawings were later turned into an oracle card deck that I use for giving Creative Soul Readings.

Enough has appeared to remind us to celebrate. You deserve to have fun, Sag. Style! And to start things off we’re going to play a game to let off some steam, release some poison arrows, and make some real changes in our lives. Sound like fun? You’ll need to find a dartboard or make one using the image above. Then place an image or a word symbolizing what is really pissing you off right now in the center of the dartboard at the bull’s eye.

Divine Feminine dartboard

Bull’s Eye Exercise Who or what is holding you back and pissing you off right now? Make a list of at least 3 things. 1. 2. 3.

Now, get ready to shoot some poison arrows at your dartboard and don’t forget to make a lot of NOISE when you hit the target! Remember, this is just a game, so have fun, invite some friends and get nasty – you’ll feel much better in the morning!

Obsidian Sheen Sphere

A Message from Obsidian Obsidian dares us to probe the depths of our souls, to shine light into our dark recesses, as we quest, question and leap into faith. Obsidian also shines light upon our blockages and asks us ‘why’, quite bluntly.

An Obsidian Healing Exercise What part of your mystical soul needs re-awakening? Where do your deepest shadows grow? What fears are hidden deep within your soul and how can you release them and their hold upon you?

Nodes of the Moon Explained

What are the Nodes of the Moon? When astrologers refer to the "the Nodes," they are generally referring to the North and South Nodes of the Moon. The Nodes of the Moon are not planetary bodies; they are points formed by the Moon's orbit around the Earth intersecting with the Earth's path around the Sun. In following the path of the Nodes of the Moon, and thus rebalancing our emotional bodies, we are going a long way toward easing internal stress and reclaiming confidence in our individual beings.

The Moon In astrology, the Moon rules our feelings, our moods, dependency, insecurity, the feeling of belonging - it rules our emotional bodies, self-image or the way we instinctively see ourselves. Considered by Jan Spiller to be the most important planet in the chart from a karmic/past life perspective, it underlies the rest of the personality structure.

North Node For each of us, the North Node is located in a sign and in a house. This can be obtained from an astrologer or a computerized birth chart. For each of us, our deepest core issues are shown in the sign and house of the positions of the North Node at the time of our birth.

The Astrology Chart The astrology chart itself is actually a schematic: a graph that shows people's "inner writing." The wiring in each of us is different. It's not "good" or "bad," it's just wired the way it's wired. Your birth chart provides a picture of the inner wiring you were born with, but what you do with that wiring is up to you. When you can objectively see the patterns of your own behavior, you can make adjustments for more efficient results and better performance. By having a clear picture of your inner wiring, you can become aware of the built-in "glitches," and you can choose not to continue behaviors that aren't working for you.

Position of the North Node in Your Chart In examining the position of your North Node, you are looking at the basic lesson underlying this entire lifetime. Therefore, the changes may not happen all at once. Keep in mind that as you take steps in a new direction, you're going against habits that have become deeply ingrained over many incarnations. That's why you need to keep remembering to do things in a new way and keep moving toward resolution of the past life imbalances you've inherited.

The sign in which the North Node falls denotes the psychological shift that needs to occur within the personality. The house containing the North Node shows the experiences that allow the person to access this new psychological awareness. The house position also indicates the arena in which the life lessons of the North Node are learned. For example, if you North Node is in Cancer in the 11th House, you are learning to get in touch with and communicate your feelings (Cancer) through cultivating the energy of friendships and learning to "go with the flow" (11th House): if your North Node is in Aries in the 4th House, through getting in touch with your gut instincts (4th House) you can discover and communicate who you are (Aries).

Astrology List of Planets and Signs

Astrology List of Planets and Signs

Duplicate Sign/House Position If the sign of your North Node is in the same sign as the house containing your North Node (for example, North Node in Gemini located in the 3rd House, which is also Gemini; or North Node in Pisces in the 12th House, which is also Pisces), it simply means double the intensity of the same life lesson.

Opposing Sign/House Position If your North Node is in a house opposing the sign of your North Node, it will be necessary for you to carefully and continuously check with yourself to find the right blending of behavior. Remember that generally, the house indicates where to learn the lessons of the sign. The house is like a shell -- the environment you need to support the content of the sign. For example, if your North Node is in Aries in the 7th House, you are learning to develop a new sense of self-identity (North Node in Aries) through becoming aware of the identity of others (North Node in the 7th House). Through working cooperatively with other people and supporting them in reaching their goals, you will discover your own true identity. However, when you turn that around and focus on yourself, you lose your identity in trying to please others and be the nice person they expect you to be. In this case, the key to self-identity would actually lie in helping others in their search for identity.

The South Node The South Node position in the birth chart depicts an aspect in our character that has been over emphasized in past lives, and thus tends to take over the personality in this lifetime and throw us off balance. When we are acting without awareness, we tend to "act out" the South Node position in response to our environment because we have been accustomed to that approach working to our advantage. However, in this lifetime, our experiences show us that approaching a situation from the stance shown by the position of the South Node in our chart is not longer working.
