Spirit Birds

I'm hearing the words 'Great Spirit' a lot these days as I randomly choose words from my books to collage into my Lefty paintings. I'm also very conscious of not littering the blogosphere with junk; mindless drivel, pap, chatter. Pared down simplicity rules my words and my art these days. I constantly question whether I'm just talking for the sake of talking or if I actually have something to say. Perhaps a bit of both right now ;)

So, I turn back to Return of the Bird Tribes (today's book) to see what else Ken Carey, the author has to say about "Great Spirit" and randomly choose this:

Even in the worst of tempests and storms -- storms that have crashed armadas, sunk galleons and seen angry warriors perish beneath their fury -- ever the birds have floated undisturbed, above the wreckage, above the turbulence, above the waves, gentle, serene.

That describes to a T how I feel when I sit down to paint my Leftys.  Especially in today's crazy world we need that feeling of gentle serenity. I do hope these Lefty paintings inspire that in you too. Blessed Be.

Slow down and smell the spiritual theme

It's time to slow down and smell the spiritual theme. Once again I turned to one of the four Sylvia Browne books I had grabbed from my birth mom's deathbed. These were books she had turned to in the last months of her life, and I asked the questions: "What is the truth? What truth is this Lefty painting sharing with me today?" Then I closed my eyes and opened up Sylvia's book Soul's Perfection and out popped the words "A spiritual theme." This helped me a lot at that very moment especially after reading this part:

A spiritual theme means that you will search for spirituality in everything you do...'even though it seems crazy, I'm going to use the silver and white lights. I'm going to use mirrors and encase myself in gold'...That's one of the hardest things to know: when it's time to move on.

My birth mom moved on in May of this year but we  still 'communicate' all the time. Blessed Be.

My good friend Tangerine just posted this on Facebook because today is Thanksgiving and it bears repeating:

I know the madness of millennia, the ways we human beings repeat our patterns ad nauseum - seemingly hellbent on our own, and on this planet's destruction. I know the origins of this day, and how people and cultures everywhere, throughout history, have eradicated entire groups in their blind greed, or in the name of "progress".

And knowing this, fully understanding the darkness that flows through the veins of the human race, and our deep fallibility and seeming inability to truly overcome it, I still choose to hone in on the beauty and grace and profound love we are also able to fund. I choose to focus on what is hopeful about us, no matter what we've done. And that is because I believe in us, I believe in our ability to overcome - even ourselves.

I am thankful for all of you, for the life I have been given, no matter its trials, and for the chance to touch you, to be touched by you, and to face a future we all know asks us to have great courage, great vision, great heart.

And I am thankful for just that, the courage that runs through my veins, the vision that pulses and grows as it alights upon yours, and for a heart both broken and full, one deeply humbled, one threaded through with the greatest, and most unbounded sort of love.
