Sag New Moon Winter Magick

Dear Moon Muser,

I have missed sharing my life with you since the last New Moon! Last blog post I didn't get a chance to and I realized that what I love most in blogs is the personal touch and getting to know the person behind the work.

Winter here in Southern California is mild - very mild. A few of the trees are just now changing color: burnt oranges (Chinese Pistachio), yellow (Sycamores) and a few bright red maples. Dusk falls around 4:45 pm and it drops to almost freezing at night.

Samhain (Hallow's Eve) is the Witches New Year and I adore this dark time of the year, but also I'm so glad for the sun of SoCali. I am part Snake (born Year of the Snake in '65) and I appreciate the sun and warmth in the dead of Winter.

For added Fairy Winter Inspiration I'm reading: The Bear and the Nightingale by Katherine Arden, Girls Made of Snow and Glass by Melissa Bashardoust and The Complete Stories of Leonora Carrington.

My latest passion is Color Theory. I'm mixing, labeling, ordering and playing with ALL my watercolors and gouache on a much deeper and more analytical level, what fun! It keeps my Virgo, sixth house Sun active.

As we roll into the deepest of deep Winter days, I remember to quiet things down more and more. The busier the world gets the quieter and more contemplative one can be - this is the magick of the season.

With the New Moon in Sagittarius on Nov. 23 it's time now to set intentions for the moonth ahead, seeding your travels (Sag loves adventure) into worlds unknown, trusting in synchronicity to bring you all you need to expand and grow deeper, always deeper, darker, ever darker.

I Paint Sagittarius

Channeling Sag energy allowed me to trust in life and to leap before looking knowing that I am safe. When I seek truth I know Sag energy.  Sag teaches us how to uplift our spirit, teach others, and carry the truth within opening us all to other realities.  We must heal the artist, the creator, and the dreamer within. To create is to release ourselves into the flow of life. We trust that in freely expressing ourselves that we are doing it for everyone, because we realize that each one of us is a Creator. 

In my Sagittarius painting I have depicted a third eye that explodes into flames. This mystical, visionary opening allows me to connect with my higher purpose, guiding the way for all humanity.

Wild woman, child, hunter of beast,

Artemis is the virgin moon-goddess roaming the forest with her band of nymphs, bearing the bow and quiver, avoiding men and killing any male who looks upon her. She was also known as the many-breasted Artemis of Ephesus, a symbol of fecundity. As the warlike Artemis she is said to have been the special goddess of the Amazons.

Every Hindu god needs a Shakti or enlivening female force to function so Brahma, the creator needed Sarasvati for the world to come into being. She is both the water goddess - part of a trinity including Ganga and Yamuna and the goddess of eloquence which pours forth like a flooding river. She is the inventor of all the arts and sciences, patron of all intellectual endeavours and the prototype of the artist. She invented writing to record the songs she inspired and created music so her beauty could be praised. In her identity as Vach, goddess of speech, she caused all words to come into being.
