How To Get Ready For Your Soul Reading

Here are a few suggestions to help you prepare for your reading so that you can have the best experience possible.

Be Prepared

The clearer your questions are, the clearer my responses will be and I would definitely advise you to check out my areas of specialty beforehand. If one or more of these tools or techniques appeals to you please let me know. Also, be sure and take a look at these soul reading samples to see if my style of reading fits your needs. I want to make sure we’re a good fit before we begin. Most people find the experience of getting a reading to be fun, inspirational and healing.

Plan on receiving an excellent reading

If this is your first reading, or you're feeling unsure or skeptical please try and keep an open mind so that the reading can take effect, both consciously and subconsciously, in direct and subtle ways. After a few days, you can question and analyze your reading from a more intellectual point of view.

Keep an open mind and heart

Sometimes a client can be so resistant to an answer that they didn’t want to hear, such as, “Is this person my soulmate and will I be with them forever?” that they will not benefit from the overall message of the reading. Over time, the big picture will start to become more clear and you may discover that you already have your answer.

Will I be able to ask questions about past, present and future issues?

Yes you can, but my readings are also intended to be therapeutic and healing based. If you are looking for more of a 'fortune teller' or ‘entertainment style’ reading I can always direct you towards someone else. Ultimately the goal of a soul reading is to encourage you to go more deeply within yourself, so that you can begin making the changes necessary to lead a fulfilling and exceptional life.

How do you read cards if the client isn't handling them?

I don't read cards like a tarot reader does. I use the cards as a visual affirmation to confirm the insights I receive during the reading and I don't look at the cards until after the reading is finished. During the reading, I hold my hand over the card to sense it's energy and this usually confirms what I'm picking up about that person's situation/question/issue during the reading. (See the photo below.)

The artwork (I only work with oracle cards of my own creation) is meant to expand the reading into the visual realms, because I find that people resonate with artistic beauty on a whole different level than the written word. Because I have always been an artist I truly and deeply believe in the healing power of art.

The real work has just begun

During a reading you will often receive confirmation about something that you already know and this is wonderful, because it's Spirit’s way of giving you the thumbs up. Sometimes you will receive information that may throw you for a loop, and in that case it's best to give it some time. Very often clients will write to me a month later telling me that their reading finally makes sense. But information alone is not the sole purpose of my readings. My intuitive skills are just a diving board, and a preparation, encouraging you to take the plunge so that you can delve more deeply into the heart of things. Once you are aware of what you are dealing with, you can then move forward and actually do something about it.

The Healing House

This is going to be a short blog series based on photos I took at The Mother of Pearl, the home and business of a wonderful esoteric healer and masseuse named Terri Darby (in Murrieta) that I visit regularly.

Terri is a Goddess and I love to be in her presence. My visit lasted for over 2 hours, and as she worked her magic on me with heated stones, light massage, aromatherapy, crystals, tibetan singing bowls and tuning forks, we spoke of cosmic grids, the base-ness of money, the Virgin of Guadalupe, stone hearts, hairballs (don't ask!), playboy bunnies and re-connection through the Keys of Enoch on Molokai. What a trip! I am still wearing my moldavite necklace in memory of our healing work together and will be posting more about my experiences (with pix!) and their outcomes soon.

How To Prepare for Giving an Oracle or Tarot Card Reading

Claudia's Question:

How or what do I do before reading my oracle cards? Do I pray? State an intention? Do I need to go through the ritual of lighting the candles before I read? Is it my religious upbringing that begs for ritual, or is ritual necessary?

My Response:

I firmly believe that whatever feels right will be right for you.

I do follow specific rituals each time I prepare for a reading based upon techniques I have picked up here and there based upon books, classes, circles and gatherings I have participated in, watching others, personal preferences, etc.

I begin with yoga exercises, then I smudge and bless myself and my tools, crystals and oracle cards (all painted by me) with white sage that I have gathered in the wild. I light a candle, play my Native American flute, light incense and then I meditate. I learned how to meditate in Ottawa, Canada, in 1991 from a woman named Om who was a student of Sri Chinmoy. I also make sure to ground and center myself by connecting with Mother Earth and by balancing and clearing all the wonderful rainbow colors of my chakras; being an artist, this is one of my favorite parts. I pray to the Divine/Great Spirit for guidance and I request an open heart and a clear channel so that I can be of service in the best way possible. When the reading is over I make sure to thank the Divine, ground, center and clear my energy. When I blow out the candle I send a healing wish to all who need it and I include specific names as well. This is my personal recipe for oracle card reading. I also offer my readings on Etsy, a large online community of artists and crafters.

Energy Healing - The Chakra System

In healing, the chakras of the patient are often of central importance to the healer as he or she works. Because the chakras are so important, and because in this Chios level you will begin to channel energy into them and sense the energy field above them, it is beneficial to gain some understanding of them. There are seven major chakras in the human body, and also numerous less-important minor ones. The chakras are energy centers, points of energy flow, and act as energy junctions in the body. They are energy processing centers, and the chakra system (comprised of the seven major chakras) is our energetic connection to the realm of pure consciousness and our spiritual essence. The energetic operations in them are what make every aspect of our bodily, emotional, mental and spiritual life possible. Each of the seven major chakras, or primary energy centers, has its own character and corresponds to a unique aspect of our being. They are patterns of energy, and are shaped something like funnels or whirlpools of energy. Their vortices lie inside the body, along the spinal cord (which corresponds to a central energy channel) and up into the head (see diagram.)

Because the chakra system is the central processing center for every aspect of our being, blockage or other energetic dysfunction in the chakras usually gives rise to disorders in the body, mind or spirit. A defect in the energy flow through any given chakra will result in a defect in the energy provided to certain portions of the physical body, as well as an impairment in the entire energy field’s ability to process energy—affecting all levels of the being. This is because the energy field is a holistic entity; every part of it affects every other part.

The chakras do not actually exist as “objects” in the physical body (they are actually energy patterns) but there are certain specific locations on the body, where you will place your hands, that correspond to the chakras, five along the spine, and two on the head. Each chakra also has a certain true color of the visible light spectrum associated with it—the intrinsic color of the chakra. Because the chakras are spiritual entities, it is impossible to convey a complete explanation of the nature of each chakra in words alone, but the table below will provide an introduction to the nature of each.

Each of the seven chakras has both a front (usually dominant) component, and a rear (usually less dominant) component, which are intimately related. The seventh and first chakras, though, are usually represented and thought of as having only the one dominant component, as it is far, far more significant than the weaker component in these two chakras. The seventh chakra extends vertically upwards above the head. The first chakra extends forwards from the base of the spine, and downwards, at roughly a 45 degree angle, although its exact position will vary from person to person. The other five chakras, spaced between the first and seventh, have at their appropriate locations a front component extending out the front of the body and a rear component extending out the rear of the body.

During energy channeling, the energy field healer receives the energy through his or her own chakra system, from all around, and from the Earth, too, which also acts as a conductor. The energy circulates in the entire universe, and conducts through the Earth, and also through the atmosphere, and into the healer’s body. When you “call in” the energy, you are receiving a greater quantity of it, so that you may pass it on, through your hands, into your patient. You receive the extra energy at first primarily through your first and seventh chakras, but later, with practice, through all your chakras equally.

Aside from the entry of energy into the body through the seven major chakras, there is also an upward flow of energy in the body, from the lower to higher energy centers. The lower chakras are simpler-functioning, but as one ascends upwards there is a greater degree of sophisticated and more spiritual functioning, intimately related to the life experience and state of being of the individual. The seven chakras, with the correspondences that exist between them and different aspects of our being and the interrelationships between them, are of great importance to the energy field healer. It is important to know, however, that an “intellectual” understanding of the chakra system is not a useful adjunct to healing work. The true energy field healer will learn to expand his or her consciousness and experience each of the chakras as a realm of being. As you begin to sense the chakras, as you practice the passing of hands and energy channeling, you may wish to begin to allow some sense of the unique nature of each chakra form in your awareness. You may also begin to gain some insight into the condition of each chakra in your patients, as well. In later Chios healing levels, you will learn more advanced methods for expanding your awareness in order to sense the condition of, and treat, the chakra system of your patients.
