Butterfly Girl

Last weekend I was reading a fashion magazine (ummm...actually, reading isn't quite the right word for it!) and noticed that the new spring collections featured alot of butterflies so I decided to paint a young girl and her new friend; a butterfly of no particular kind (i made it up) but it does have the colours of a Monarch although not the shape of one.  This painting was created with acrylics on reclaimed pine board and I've also painted a matching wooden necklace to go with it. Karma Cat

The other day after finishing this Karma Cat painting (using acrylics on reclaimed pine board) I didn't want to stop so I took out my wooden necklace pendants which I had already pre-painted and continued on with Karma Cat number 2!  What a delight!  I was so pleased with the results that I will continue to create matching paintings and necklaces and offer them together in my shop: http://KathyCrabbeArt.com (PLUS I am also offering a small discount when both are purchased together - woohoo!)

Sculpey Adventures in Birdland

I recently purchased some Firm Super Sculpey (an oven bake clay) for the first time to try my hand at sculpting.  I had read about a clay-pipe dairy goddess and liked the idea of forming my own creation with a hollow center and so I wrapped a coil of clay around my finger and then put a small round ball for a head on the top.  I wanted to create a shape and design that I could use over and over to create a whole line of figures; something cute and simple.  Well, my little goddess figure somehow morphed into a Bird Person who later decided that he wanted a wee  striped railroad cap and a bowtie!  I baked him in the oven for the requisite 15-30 minutes at  275° and will paint him next so stay tuned!
