Non Binary Nude Alien Series (2021)
Expanding perception and exploring consciousness via the power of chance and portals into chaos realms.
Currently I’m being guided to paint nudes. Nudes with alien heads! (drawn with my non dominant hand, of course) and animals, plants and words chosen intuitively (randomly?) from 6 different sources.
This is how I welcome intuition into my work. I open the doors to the Other Realms and invite them in to share their magickal synchronicities.
How can you apply this to your own life?
By recognizing when a coincidence is more than a coincidence and instead points to a synchronicity connecting you to your path, your guides, your inner compass.
How can you welcome more of this kind of knowing into your life?
By allowing it. Recognizing it. Accepting it. Trusting it. It may not make a lot of sense at first, but that is how the non rational, intuitive brain often communicates.
Why Non Binary?
I have recently self diagnosed as Neurodivergent. By exposing myself it feels like I’m naked exposing my alien self for the first time, and my paintings reflect this.
How did life change when I found out I was Neurodivergent?
I am becoming more compassionate. Life is not about capitalism any more, life is about helping others especially those who are Neurodivergent.
Understanding that I’m Neurodivergent has also helped me understand how very sensitive I am and that I’ve been living under the mask of being tough since I was young.
Artist Statement 2021
During this past year of lockdown I realized I’m Neurodivergent. I am now attempting to drop the mask; of being tough, ‘the rock’ and this is reflected in my current series of mixed media on paper Non Binary Nude Alien paintings. Feeling exposed and vulnerable I allow myself to remember who I am and the act of painting helps. Painting slows me down, tunes me into my true self. I AM sensitive and I’m tired of trying to fit in and be normal. I’m tired of capitalism and the endless drive to get ahead and push, push, push. I want to help others to be brave and to acknowledge and stand up for their boundaries, their space, and for who they are even when it’s scary. Because we need to heard and respected for who we truly are.
By painting ‘otherness’ expressed via nude, non binary aliens I share my lived experience of being Neurodivergent. I also share the supernatural gifts many Neurodivergent people have in the way I make these paintings. Each piece of the painting is randomly (intuitively) chosen from 6 different sources: a quote from a book inspires the painting and another quote from the same book ends up collaged into the painting becoming the title.
I randomly,intuitively collage/add to each painting:
1. A quotation from one of my books inspires the painting.
2. The head is drawn with my non dominant left hand (the intuitive hand).
3. A nude body from my Pose File books is drawn.
4. A painting of an animal or plant from The New Golden Treasury of Natural History book is added.
5. An image from the book, The Cabinet of Natural Curiosities is added
6. I write or collage text from the original book and that often becomes the title of the painting.
All these elements invite chance into the painting opening portals into chaos and deep play similar to the way my Neurodivergent brain experiences the world.
