Shalamar mistress of the night (Creative Soul Guide)

Funny, but Shalamar sorta reminds me of an insect. Certainly not my intention when She so gracefully appeared on the page yesterday! One of my best friends (who, incidentally looks just like her) called her a "fierce beauty" and She is that. Kathy Crabbe, Shalamar mistress of the night, 2014, watercolor on paper, 8 x 11”.

Have you ever heard of a Sea-elf before? Part mermaid, part elf. I hadn't until yesterday when she appeared to me. Quite thin, poor wee thing, but then perhaps it allows her to travel between worlds more easily. Her skin is quite metallic (green-grey) which keeps her warm underwater and protects her skin from harmful rays above. She seems to me quite serious. Is she contemplating (like Circe) and the Sirens a way to lure unsuspecting sailors to their doom? I don't think so. If you meet her in one of your dreams; why not ask her yourself.

Algiz (protection) from the Creative Soul Guide Series

When i painted Algiz, a Norse rune symbol appeared in her/his hair and when I looked up it's meaning in Diana L. Paxson's excellent book Taking Up The Runes i found this:

Elhaz (or Algiz) is one of the most generally useful of runes in practical magic. Combined with other runes in a bindrune, it invokes their force for protection...Used alone, it can be drawn on doors and windowsills to protect a house or on the hood of an automobile (I painted one on my luggage!) It is drawn on the forehead when one is going into danger and projected outward to create a circle of protection...Note that the reversed form of the rune is the same as the circled peace symbol.
